day 8 - up to Doubtful

Another day, another paddle

Most of us went for a bush walk, lots of streams and untouched rainforest. STUNNING

On the walk I also met a very friendly South Island Robin

More fishing - this time Hapuka

We caught a few...

Over the trip we saw 3 pods of dolphins - I managed to go for a paddle with one but didn't get any good photos (it was getting dark and after chasing them 2k's down the fiord I was happy just to enjoy the moment!)
I did lots lots of photos of the other ones though

As well as a video

That afternoon was day 3 of the fiordland trip, and we had to get up to Doubtful Sound which was where we were leaving from the following day. This required going out onto the coast and motoring north for a few hours. Unfortunately the swells were only 3-4m, so nothing exciting happened - I was hoping to taking photos of someone spewing... oh well, maybe next time :P

When we arrived into Doubtful sound there was a rainbow to welcome us.

Our skipper was having a rest and had let Sarah take the wheel. We realised something was going wrong when we saw we were heading straight for the side of the fiord... Thankfully Mandy (skipper's wife) had also noticed and saved the day. When I asked Sarah why she hadn't noticed where she was going she said she had, but she was getting her photo taken!! Her partner Felix does like his photos to be just so, so I can see her predicament... but I think our lives were slightly more important!!
Meanwhile I had enjoyed more than several G&T's :D

  1. WOW.

Again, more beautiful scenery and by the looks of, good times!! The robin is SOOOO cute!! Not so taken with the big ugly fish but hey, it takes all kinds. Did you catch that one?

And I'm having fits of jealousy over the dolphins. I last went swimming with dolphins up north ten years ago... great experience but over REALLY quick. Those were Common Dolphins, I've never seen a live bottlenose :)

OOO - I should mention I HAVE seen Dusky's and Hector's live tho.

    Hugs!!
