But first a history lesson!
The Scirocco originally made back in the 1970's, and was build with the idea of replacing the legendary Karmann Ghia. The name was actually one of the suggestions for the car that is now called the Golf (of which over 25 million have now been made!) and the Scirocco would have then been called the Scirocco Coupe. This of course didn't happen!
After the production of MK1 and then MK2 Sciroccos for a few years, VW canned the line, and the Corrado (OH YEAH!) was widely seen as the next stage in VW's sports car line up, although strictly speaking the Corrado was a different car, and production started on them which Sciroccos were still being made...
Just in case you have forgotten what the Corrado looks like - here is a very hot example!!
Since the end of Corrados, VW has not made a true sports coupe at all, leaving the ever popular Golf GTI (who's popularity is seen as one of the main reasons the Corrado never found a true market and didn't sell very well) to fill the space in their line up.
But finally it's back!! The new Scirocco is due out this winter, and you can now even sign up for updates on VW's website!!! (I know!!)
Isn't she beautiful!
It must be said though, that I'm a bit gutted they decided to call it the Scirocco and not the Corrado - I'm sure it because the Corrado failed so miserably in its time, so therefore calling it the Scirocco doesn't have so much bad fortune financial behind it, but its still a bit upsetting for me!
Coolness :D
